Folk craftsperson Maria Mihalachi

The custom according to which the bride had to make for her dowry, besides other household textiles, carpets woven with her own hands, has contributed to the perpetuation of the tradition of the weaving craft. In the commune of Bălțătești in Neamț County, this craft is carried on by folk craftsman Maria Mihalachi. A worthy continuator of this folk art, alongside a few other women from the village, she puts into the woven objects not only the traditional motifs specific to the area where she was born and lives, but also her own imagination.
